Hanukkah or  Festival of Lights  is  a Jewish holiday  observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. During the Festival of Lights, every night Jewish people kindle a light on the  nine-branched menorah or hanukiah.

In Or Avner-Green Kindergarten and School, we celebrate Hanukkah with great joy. A few weeks before the festival starts, we teach children  about light and darkness. At circle time, children are introduced  to the new concepts through songs, poems and fun games, they learn about the miracles and the real story of Hanukkah, they express positive and negative feelings  and  become familiar with idioms in Hebrew related to the topic while in all the areas of experience they get the opportunity to reinforce the new concepts in science and investigation or art and craft activities (they make their own Menorah), in role-play activities (they play with real objects such as  priestly breastplate -Hoshen), or construction games (they build the Holy Temple with rocks). On top of the list we have the  Hanukkah party for  kids and parents with music, dance and lots of fun!
