Tu B’Shevat is a celebration of the beginning of a new year for trees. It falls on the 15th of Shevat on the Jewish calendar.
In Or Avner -Green Kindergarten and School we teach about Tu B’Shevat through different activities on the topic of nature. Children learn about trees and plants, they experience firsthand how to make citrus fruit juice, they learn new songs and new stories about the land of Israel. On the morning of Tu B’Shevat we start the celebration with a fancy breakfast rich in fruits, special blessings for each fruit and we continue having fun throughout the day doing art with fruit, improvising a juice bar or having a session of cake baking. At the end of the day children go home with a special basket full of dry fruits from Israel.
